Francis Ford Coppola’s notes on a page of Mario Puzo’s The Godfather. Notice the inner portion of the page with the type-set on it is a different color than the outer rim of the page with the notes on it. That’s because Coppola actually pulled apart his copy of The Godfather, isolated each page, and then pasted it into a pre-cut hole in a sheet of paper, giving himself wide homemade margins on which to write his adaptation notes.  The notes themselves are fascinating, and if you look at the page in question, it’s actually the scene in which Michael pulls off the hit on the crooked cop and The Turk, the “pink mist” scene which has proved to be the most memorable in the movie for many viewers, myself included.
